You have visited a study group, bought a homeopathic over-the-counter remedy or investigated the use of a single remedy on the advice of a friend. You have had a small success and would like to use homeopathy to tackle a more important health problem, or you want a homeopath to take care of your family. Where do you go from here?

Homeopathy is practiced by a wide variety of health-care practitioners, including medical doctors, osteopaths, naturopathic physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, dentists, veterinarians, chiropractors, acupuncturists, nurse midwives, and podiatrists, as well as by professional homeopaths, who practice only homeopathy and are unlicensed in any other discipline.

The problem for the consumer is that the practitioners level of competence in homeopathy often has little to do with his or her type of licensure. The best test of qualifications is whether they have been certified in homeopathy. The CCH credential Certified Classical Homeopath is excellent, as well as the DHt Diplomate in Homeotherapeutics, available for MDs and DOs, and the DHANP Diplomate of the Homeopathic Academy of Naturopathic Physicians, available for naturopathic physicians. For veterinarians, the credential CVH indicates that they are a Certified Veterinary Homeopath.

What kind of questions will help you identify your chosen practitioner? The questions will certainly vary with each case, but a few pertinent ones might be Does the practitioner specialize in homeopathy? Does the practitioner use classical homeopathy? Where was the practitioner trained? How long has the practitioner actively been using homeopathy? Has the practitioner had experience with the diagnostic category in which your condition fits?

Some other important issues might be how distant the practitioner is from your home and whether or not your insurance company will cover the visit. As a general rule, if the type of practitioner is covered by your insurance, then the visit will be covered. You may also consider whether the practitioner includes other therapies in his or her practice and if you would like to use those therapies.

The choices open to you will vary according to where you live. If you are in a major metropolitan area, you will have more choices, although many practitioners are spread throughout the United States. Remember, use the resources close at hand, and good luck with your homeopathic experience.

The word Kinesis in Greek means movement and Kinesiology studies the relationship between the quality of muscular movement and overall health. Kinesiology deals with methods of maintaining good health through proper functioning and movement of all the muscles in the body.

This system operates under the belief that each part of the body is connected to a corresponding muscle. If a muscle is not working properly, associated parts will be affected and this manifests as a disease.

Kinesiology is related to acupuncture and draws on the principles of ancient Chinese medicine. Both sciences deal with the specific paths in the body called meridians. As in acupuncture, Kinesiology believes that physical disorders are a direct result of blocks in the path of the energy flow in our body.

A trained Kinesiologist employs muscle testing to identify problem areas. The doctor applies pressure on a clenched muscle and asks the patient to resist the pressure. Thus he assesses muscle movement and response. The practitioner looks for any physical disorder, lack of nutrition or lack of energy that may be at the root of the problem.

Once the problem area is identified, gentle techniques are used to re-establish harmony and to rejuvenate the flow of energy. A light massage on the relevant pressure points usually restores the flow of blood to the muscles and stimulates the secretion of lymph. Lymph is responsible for detoxifying the muscles. So when the muscles receive a good supply of lymph and blood, they function well.

Other common forms of treatment include the use of magnets, flower essence, homeopathy and even thought control. Most patients find their Kinesiology sessions immensely enjoyable and relaxing. They leave therapy with a feeling of wonder that such a joyous experience could really cure them of their illness.

An experienced Kinesiologist would be able to assess the ENTIRE health chart of a client in just a single sitting. The therapist may identify allergies, deal with phobias or stress, rectify nutritional imbalances and may even start the process of detoxifying the entire system of the patient.

Like any other holistic medical practice, you really do not need to have any external symptom to benefit from Kinesiology. Even in the absence of illness, Kinesiology helps improve health, increases the feeling of well-being, boosts intellectual functioning and unleashes positive attitudes. In short, it can help individuals reach the highest point of their potential. One can achieve success in just about any field by riding on a high wave of confidence and ability.

Kinesiology works because it is non-invasive, gentle and free of side effects. Kinesiology is an effective preventative therapy. Some of the areas where Kinesiology works wonders are

- Prevents illnesses
- Increases energy levels
- Relieves physical pain by improving posture
- Heals traumas
- Identify allergies
- Enhances brain functioning and coordination

Spiritual Kinesiology is a relatively new but powerful branch of Kinesiology that helps people transcend their unresolved emotions and limiting beliefs. If used properly Spiritual Kinesiology uses the healing power of the soul to reverse an unbalanced energy pattern and sets it right in just a few MINUTES!

Kinesiology offers a complete health care package by taking care of physical, emotional and mental development. The ease and effectiveness of this technique is sometimes mystifying, even miraculous.

Ah, Wonderful Rose Oil

If there’s an aroma that more individuals find deeply moving than any other, it is the oil of rose. The scent is divinely sweet, rich, and deeply floral – exclusive to the extract of history’s most revered flower. Though the rose is renown for it’s fragrance, the flower actually contains very little aromatic oil by weight. Some 60,000 roses are needed to distill a single ounce of oil, or about 60 roses PER DROP, a fact which brings the seemly high cost of rose oil into perspective.

The Flower of Love

The hardy nature of the thorny rose bush and the flower’s magnificent beauty make it a horticulturalist’s dream. The genus Rosa has some 150 species spread around the globe, being cultivated in your grandmother’s backyard garden, in vast fields in Bulgaria’s Valley of Roses, and everywhere in between.

Roses have somewhat of a unique past, peppered with interesting stories and extravagant displays of affection. The flower’s association with devotion was perhaps most wonderfully expressed during the Roman empire, with banquet halls being carpeted with petals. Cleopatra once received her beloved Marc Antony in a room literally knee-deep in rose petals how’s that for greeting? Roses are the unrivaled symbol of love, given dear ones through the ages as an affirmation of true affection. It’s no wonder the flower’s oil has great healing properties, both physically and emotionally, for the human heart.

Rose’s health Benefits

With it’s considerable therapeutic and aesthetic value, the ‘queen of the flowers’ had a special place in medicine and perfumery in the ancient civilizations of Persia, Egypt, India, Greece and Rome. The modern healing tradition of the extract of rose began in the 17 th century with the writings of English physician Nicholas Culpeper. The herbalist described the use of red roses to strengthen the heart, it’s cooling and astringent actions, and its effect on headaches and tired eyes. Perhaps inspiring it’s use as a beauty tonic ‘par-excellence’, he went on to suggest it’s use as a remedy for a variety of skin complaints.

In aromatherapy, the psychological effects are wondrous for those with a broken heart, or other emotional wounds. Rose oil calms and supports the heart center, inspiring a sense of happiness and well-being. When rejection or loss has injured one’s ability to love and nurture, either themselves or those around them, rose oil can bring sweet and gentle comfort and allow an emotional ‘re-opening’.

Use in Aromatherapy

It is the Bulgarian Damask rose, or Rosa Damacena, most often used in aromatherapy. The oil of this 36-petaled beauty is available in two forms the ‘otto’, or true essential oil, and the ‘absolute’. Harvest of the flowers occurs in the early morning, before the sun’s rays has warmed away the aroma. Rose otto is made in a two step steam-distillation process; the first distillation yields an essential oil and a large amount of ‘rose water’. The water is again distilled, producing an oil which is combined with that from the first distillation.

The absolute is made with a different process entirely. Similar in a way to ‘effleurage’ the pressing of petals in fat to produce an extract, the flowers are processed in a solvent, with a wax-like ‘concrete’ being produced. Through a second extraction of the concrete, rose absolute is yielded. This method is significantly more efficient than steam distillation, producing nearly 7 pounds of oil per 10,000 pounds of roses distillation yields 1 pound oil per 10,000 pounds of roses, with a corresponding lower cost. Does one produce a better oil? There is certainly debate; while some argue that traces of solvent are likely to exist in the absolute, others claim the heat of distillation does not result in a true representation of the flower. And as with either method, the quality and effect of the oil varies greatly with the experience and care of the manufacturer the answer truly lies with the individual and the application.

Using Rose Oil

Oil of rose can be utilized in a number of ways; it is very gentle, being suitable for use on the skin ‘neat’, in massage oil, and in a bath, as well as in a diffuser. As a perfume, the absolute can be worn directly on the skin it’s ‘tenacious’ quality will have the aroma slowly released for many hours. For therapeutic use for the emotions, a dilution of 10 of otto or absolute in jojoba oil is often used, being massaged into the heart area a diffuser is very effective for this purpose as well. The absolute or otto can also be added in small amounts to any skin cream, though using a home-made natural recipe is often the nicest. Rose water, or hydrosol, the water resulting from the distillation process of rose otto, can also be used directly on the skin, with it’s mild astringent and toning properties.

A rose and lavender facial cream can be made using the following recipe

Melt ounce of beeswax in 4 ounces of jojoba using a double boiler. Add 3 ounces of distilled water in a thin stream while stirring vigorously with a wire whisk. Remove from heat and continue stirring while adding 20 drops of rose oil absolute or otto and 15 drops of lavender. Allow to cool, then enjoy this wonderful homemade cream for sensitive skin.

There are, of course, many ways to enjoy rose oil’s benefits. It is revered on many levels, from its pure aesthetic aromatic beauty, to its physiological healing and emotional uplifting. True rose oil, with its great depth and sweetness, is easily appreciated by almost all who experience this natural wonder.

The term homeopathy was coined by the Saxon physician Samuel Hahnemann 17551843 and first published in 1796. Homeopathy is a system of medicine that is based on the Law of Similars. The truth of this law has been verified experimentally and clinically for the last 200 years.

Homeopathy is derived from the Greek words hmoios similar. It is a system of alternative medicine that treats like with like, using remedies that it is claimed would, in healthy individuals, produce similar symptoms to those it would treat in an ill patient.

Classical homeopathy originated in the 19th century with Samuel Christian Friedrich Hahnemann as an alternative to the standard medical practices of the day, such as phlebotomy or bloodletting. Opening veins to bleed patients, force disease out of the body, and restore the humors to a proper balance was a popular medical practice until the late19th century.

Practitioners believe that the potency of a remedy can be increased by systematically diluting the dosage, along with succession or shaking, to a point where it is unlikely that even a molecule of the original ingredient is present.

Homeopathy is reported to be growing in popularity, growing in popularity in the United States faster than any other method of alternative healing, and as increasingly being endorsed by doctors.

Homeopathy is founded on the Law of Similars, first expressed by Hahnemann in the exhortation similia similibus curentur or let likes cure likes. The law of similars is based on Hahnemanns conclusion that a given constellation of symptoms ellicited by a given homeopathic remedy in a group of healthy individuals will cure an ill individual exhibiting a similar constellations of symptoms. Symptom patterns associated with various remedies are determined by provings, in which healthy volunteers are given remedies in homeopathic form, and the physical, mental and spiritual symptoms they develop are recorded and compiled by observers. Homeopathic practitioners rely on two types of reference in prescribing.

Homeopathic remedies are prepared by dilution of a substence with succussion, or shaking, between dilutions. The remedies in homeopathy are often so dilute that they are statistically unlikely to contain any molecules of the original substance. At first, Hahnemann tested substances commonly used as medicines in his time and poisions in homeopathic provings.

He recorded his findings in his Materia Medica Pura. Kents Lectures on Homoeopathic Materia Medica lists 217 remedies, and new substances are being added continually to contemporary versions. Homeopathy uses many animal, plant, mineral, and chemical substances of natural or synthetic origin. Examples include Natrum muriaticum sodium chloride or table salt, lachesis muta the venom of the bushmaster snake, Opium, and Thyroidinum thyroid hormone. Other homeopathic remedies, isopathic remedies involve dilutions of the agent or the product of the disease. Rabies nosode, for example, is made by potentizing the saliva of a rabid dog.

Acne and pimples Try toothpaste. The chemicals in the tooth paste that are used to scrub your teeth clean actually dry out the pimples over night. Lemon juice will have the same affect. Be sure to wash with warm water in the morning. If your acne isnt phased by these two remedies, try boiling 3 teaspoons of basil leaves in 1 cup water and applying it to the affected areas via a cotton ball. Rubbing raw garlic on the affected area will also help blemishes to disappear with minimal scarring.

BladderKidney Problems Boil cranberries and let me fall apart into the water. Cool and drink the water, and make sure to not add sugar.

Bags Under Your Eyes Mix 1 teaspoon of tomato juice with a pinch of turmeric powder, half a teaspoon lemon juice and a teaspoon of flour. It will make a paste. Apply around your eyes for 10 minutes and then wash off.

Energizer Drink a mixture of grapefruit juice and lemon juice in equal parts to eradicate that tired feeling at the end of the workday.

Gum in Your Hair Surprisingly, this can be remedied easily by soaking the affected hair in Coca Cola. The gum will easily wipe out.

Hangovers Drink plenty of water! Alcohol leaves the body in a severe state of dehydration. Also, try some honey. The fructose in the honey will help the alcohol dissipate from your body.

Heartburn Because heartburn is caused by an overload of stomach acid trying to make its way up the esophagus, try sitting up and eating rice pudding that was made with milk. It will help absorb all that extra acid floating around your stomach. If your heartburn reoccurs often.

I remember when I first discovered aromatherapy several years ago. I was fascinated by essential oils and excited to try using them. Looking back, I realize I should have done a bit more research before diving into aromatherapy. I offer you the advice I wish Id had when I was an aromatherapy novice

1. Buy One or Two Aromatherapy Books
Choose just one or two books to start your aromatherapy library. Select books that are general resources, which will give you some basic information and help you discover the areas in which you have the most interest. Two of my favorites Are Colleen K Dodts The Essential Oils Book, and Joy Bowles The A-to-Z of Essential Oils.

2. Join Aromatherapy Discussion Forums
Forums are great resources for aromatherapy newbies. Read past discussions, ask questions, and learn from others. The Yahoo Group Aromatherapy for Everyone is a friendly place for beginners, and members range from novices to experts.

3. Do Some Research on the Internet
While its nice to have an aromatherapy book or two at your fingertips, there are some excellent resources on the internet, too. Be a critical reader, though, and consider your source. Information offered by a manufacturer or affiliate seller may not be as trustworthy as information offered by a more objective source. Aromatherapy websites I refer to over and over include AromaWeb and Wavelengths Natural Health Aromatherapy.

4. Choose Five or Ten Essential Oils to Start
Though you may be tempted to buy more, try to begin with just five or ten different essential oils. Essential oils can be quite expensive, so you may want to experiment with a few at first and then invest in more if you decide to pursue aromatherapy further.

5. Make Sure to Buy 100, Pure, Unadulterated Essential Oils
When you buy essential oils, choose a well-known and reputable manufacturer. Synthetic, fragrance, and perfume oils are not essential oils they contain man-made chemicals and have no aromatherapeutic value.

6. Buy at Least One Carrier Oil
For nearly all topical aromatherapy applications, you will need to dilute essential oils into a carrier oil. Good all-purpose carrier oils include sweet almond oil, sunflower oil, and grapeseed oil. Buy cosmetic grade carrier oils, and use only a few drops of essential oils per ounce of carrier oil.

7. Store Your Oils Properly
Essential oils should be stored only in dark glass containers. Since essential oils are volatile, keep the lids tightly closed. Essential oils and carrier oils should be stored away from heat and light. Carrier oils will go rancid eventually, so its best to buy smaller quantities.

8. Learn How to Do a Patch Test
Essential oils can cause adverse reactions, due to allergy or due to sensitization over time. A patch test helps to determine whether you might react to a particular essential oil. Learn how to perform a skin patch test on yourself with each new oil you want to use topically.

9. Dont Use Aromatherapy with Children or Pets
Until you are thoroughly familiar with essential oils and associated safety issues, dont use them on children or pets, or while pregnant or breastfeeding. Cats, in particular, may be adversely affected by essential oils. Make sure essential oils are kept out of reach of children.

10. Dont Ingest Essential Oils
Though you will read conflicting information about taking essential oils internally, you should avoid doing this. Some essential oils that are fairly safe to use topically may be quite toxic if taken internally. In addition, some essential oils may interact with prescription or over the counter drugs.

As you experiment with and learn more about aromatherapy, you will become more confident using essential oils. There is so much to explore, so be safe and have fun!

An important differentiator between alternative medicine acupuncture, herbs, yoga, etc. and Western medicine drugs, surgery is how the practitioners view disease. In alternative medicine, disease is seen as something to be avoided. In Western medicine, we see disease as something we must wait for, then cure.

Have you heard the term wellness? It has two contexts, one in alternative medicine and one in Western medicine.

In the alternative medicine world, wellness means taking care of yourself so you don’t get sick. Let’s find ways to avoid cancer, heart disease, mental illness. We can do this through changing our diet, exercising more, and changing our energy fields.

In Western medicine, we wait until we get one of these diseases, then we rush heroically to beat the disease. In Western medicine, the term wellness means early detection of disease. If you walk into a Wellness Center in a hospital, you’ll see mammogram screening rooms, MRI machines and other tools to scan for the existence of disease.

Is that wellness? To me, it’s not. Wellness is about staying well, it is about avoiding disease in the first place. When a person is told You have cancer, it is a major blow to their psyches, and their lives. Why go through that if you don’t have to? Why not do whatever you can to avoid that terrible day?

Western medicine treats the pre-detection part of life as a kind of random soup of nothingness. You can’t really do anything about any of these diseases, you just get them or you don’t. No rhyme or reason to it, it just hits you, and then you deal with it.

Genetics is a big factor in the Western medical model. If you get cancer, ah, well, it was in your genes that you’d get it. You see, your great grandfather had cancer, so it was inevitable that you’d get it too.

Huh? Unfortunately, Western medicine can’t explain why siblings get or don’t get diseases supposedly passed on from their parents. One sister dies of cancer at a young age because of genetics and the other sister lives to be 100 genetics.

For my part, I’m going to take the best care of myself possible, and not play a silly waiting game for disease.

At some time or another, weve all experienced the effects of sunburn be it a light burn or a more heavy burn.

Although the sting of regret of inadequate protection from UV exposure can be an excellent incentive to plan more carefully on future occasions, its of little help in soothing the immediate physical sting i.e. pain accompanying sunburn.

However if you have found yourself having spent a little too much time in the sun, — here are 4 natural home remedies to help ease the pain of sunburn, and assist in the bodys healing process

1. Cool Milk Compresses – The fat and lactic acids in milk are known to have soothing qualities for sunburned skin. Soak a soft cloth or cotton gauze in cool whole milk, and dab carefully onto the burned skin. Do this for around 20 minutes, and follow by rinsing off with cool water. Due to the importance of the milks fat content, its important that whole milk be used in this treatment.

2. Cool, sugarless tea – The tannin in tea is the active ingredient here, which helps to soothe and relieve some of the discomfort of sunburned skin. After brewing a big pot of tea, and allowing it to cool completely, slosh the affected areas with a soft sponge or washcloth. As with the vinegar 4, you could also fill a spray bottle, and spray the tea directly on the skin. And dont throw away the used cool teabags. These are especially good for sensitive areas around the eyes simply place the teabags over your eyes if they feel hot and tired. If you have St. Johns Wort, consider using this as it contains cooling properties, which can help tone down some of the heat in your skin, as well as soothing the nerve endings damaged by the sunburn.

3. Aloe Vera – Aloe Vera is commonly used to treat sunburn. As well as providing soothing relief, it may also assist in the healing process. Apply to the affected areas as needed. Although the gel extracted directly from an aloe Vera plant works best, if you dont have ready access to one, you may use an over the counter Aloe Vera Cream that contains the gel. For this to be effective, just ensure that the cream contains a high concentration of Aloe Vera than it does water or other solutions.

4. Water – When exposed to the sun, your body loses water and essential body salts. Dehydration occurs when your body loses too much fluid, and begins to reabsorb fluid from the blood and other body tissues. To prevent the consequences of dehydration, increase your fluid intake to ensure you adequately re-hydrate your body for optimum recovery and health.

Sunburn should of course be avoided where possible — particularly as its adverse affects not only include damage to the skin, but also the increased risk of skin cancer. Prevention and protection should always be considered the best treatment for sunburn, and will assist in ensuring your optimum long-term health!

DISCLAIMER These are home remedy tips only, and should not replace your regular health care provider. If in doubt at any time in relation to your sunburn, please seek the appropriate health care assistance.
