The costs for cosmetic surgery vary greatly throughout the United States. A number of factors contribute to these cost differences including the type of cosmetic surgery procedure performed, the level of complexity presented by the patient in other words, how much work is needed, the location, and the surgeons individual fees. It is entirely feasible that two individuals visiting the same surgeon for a consultation on a procedure will be quoted two different prices. This is due to the fact that each individual presents a unique challenge to the doctor. Some surgeries require more work than others, even if the two individuals are seeking the same procedure. For this reason, it is nearly impossible for a doctor to quote a patient a set price for a procedure until he has had a chance to examine the patient in person.

Many health insurance companies will not cover the costs of cosmetic surgery, especially if the procedure is an elective one. There are a few circumstances under which your insurance may pick up a portion, perhaps even all, of your surgical bills. For example, many insurance companies will pay for rhinoplasty, which is a nose job, if the procedure is necessary to reduce a blockage that is unduly restricting a patients breathing. To determine if your cosmetic surgery is covered by your insurance plan, contact your health insurance provider. Keep in mind that even if the procedure is covered, you may be responsible for a deductible or co-payment.

The national average, as of December 2005, of a number of cosmetic surgeries is detailed below. As discussed above, the actual cost of your surgery will vary based on the extent of work needed, the surgeons geographical location, and the surgeons individual fees. In the United States, New York has the highest costs for plastic surgery. On the opposite end of the spectrum is Florida and Texas, which offer the most affordable procedures in the nation. The national averages listed below do not include anesthesiology costs, operating room charges, or related expenses.

Procedure Cost
Breast implants 3,043
Breast lift 3,503
Chin augmentation 1,488
Ear surgery 2,168
Eyelid surgery 2,544
Facelift 5,007
Laser hair removal 360 per treatment
Laser skin resurfacing 2,243
Liposuction 2,049 per area treated
Microdermabrasion 136 per treatment
Rhinoplasty 2,947
Tummy tuck 4,205

Due to the high costs of most cosmetic surgery procedures, most surgeons now offer a variety of payment options to patients. These may include cash, personal checks, and credit card payments. A number of surgeons also now offer plastic surgery financing plans. Financing plans allow patients to spread the cost of the surgery over an extended period of time, so that patients are not forced to pay for the entire surgery upfront.

If you are considering plastic surgery, talk to local surgeons to set up a consultation and inquire about specific pricing and financial options available to you.

With plenty of shows like Extreme Makeover, NipTuck and the advent of the Discovery Health Channel, the idea of plastic surgery has been gaining a lot of ground. But just because you can get plastic surgery, it doesn’t always mean that you should! As a matter of fact, a lot of the things that women want to repair with plastic surgery can be remedied without the costs or risks that surgery entails. When it comes down to it, how sure are you that plastic surgery is your best or only option? You’re just about to find out!

Should You or Shouldn’t You?

Wondering if plastic surgery is the only way to fix your flaws? Honestly, it probably isn’t. You’d be surprised at the number of different maladies which don’t require plastic surgery to treat or correct. Instead, they can be treated with less invasive options like Botox, acidic peels, microdermabrasion or even over-the-counter remedies.

Which ailments dont require surgery?

Dark, under-eye circles
Fine wrinkles under the eyes
Smile lines around the eyes
Dry or blotchy skin
Discoloration or other pigmentation problems
Those little lines at the corner of the mouth they look a bit like parentheses
Vertical frown lines between your eyebrows
Fine wrinkles on your cheeks
The infamous double chin
Or a slight fullness or plumpness along the jaw line.

Conversely, the following conditions can only be remedied by a skilled plastic surgeon

Excessive eyelid skin
Puffiness or deep under-eye circles
Deep vertical frown lines between the eyebrows
Jowls hanging over the jaw line
Hanging skin and deep facial wrinkles
Very lose neck skin
Loss of cheek fullness
A nasolabial fold a deeper, more severe version of the nasolabial line etched into the skin.

You’ll notice that we didn’t list a few cosmetic surgeries you might have expected, like breast augmentation, nose jobs, and so on for a very simple reason – the emotions and the importance of major surgeries like these is hard to measure on the Should You or Shouldn’t You scale. If you’re in the market for this type of surgery, don’t worry. Your plastic surgeon will help you by going over the reasons, options and other tough-to-work-out issues before any surgery is performed.

Regardless of whether or not you ultimately decide to have plastic surgery, it’s very important to pick up all of the facts. Any type of surgery, no matter how seemingly minor, comes with serious risks and discomforts. If you’re still convinced that surgery is your only way to regain your full confidence, do your homework and find a well-trained, highly recommended surgeon to guide you through the process.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure which allows a surgeon to go into your body to remove extra fat deposits and to shape or reshape your body. The excess fat is removed by going under the skin with an ultrasonic probe which will then emulsify the fat and it will be removed with the suction.

Liposuction is not just for the stomach and abdominal area. You are able to get liposuction on many areas of your body including; your hips area, neck, butt, arms, calves, face, or back. You also have the option of getting liposuction done on more than one area at the same time. For example, you could get liposuction on your stomach, back, and arms in the same day.

More men have started to opt into getting liposuction done also. The most common area for men is the chest area to reduce breast size or to remove lipomas, or fat tumors. However, please note than liposuction is not an alternative to a healthy diet and exercise plan. Liposuction only helps to remove the areas of fat that have not responded to a traditional weight-loss method.

Liposuction can be performed by plastic surgeons or by dermatologists, although any authorized physician can perform liposuction. Most physicians professional associations highly recommend training for liposuction, even though no standardized training is mandatory.

Always make sure to ask whether or not your doctor has had specialized training in liposuction and have had success with it in the past. However, there is always the chance of the liposuction procedure having complications. This surgery is a bigger risk for those who have medical conditions like heart disease, lung disease, poor blood circulation, diabetes or who have had surgery recently. Inform your doctor of any medical conditions you might have.

Liposuction surgery has helped many people transition into a healthier lifestyle easier and has also helped to raise the self-esteem and well-being in those individuals also.

Liposuction is the permanent removal of fat. This procedure is recommended only to those who are obese excessively overweight, as this procedure removes large amounts of fat over several sessions of surgery. Anywhere from four to six liters of pure fat is able to be removed in each session.

The most common areas for women to get liposuction are in the abdomen, chin, hips and thighs. Men have also gone with liposuction to reduce the size of their stomachs.

Liposuction is one of the safest forms of cosmetic surgery there is and is performed as day surgery and requires only the use of a local anesthetic.

Liposuction can be performed on people of all ages, but older patients do not receive the same result, as their skin elasticity is less than a younger person who has tighter skin.

Any procedure, including liposuction, involves many risks and complications. Before going through with the surgery, make sure that the surgeon you have chosen is recommended and has a reputation of being honest and safe.

Adjustable gastric banding surgery is now one of the most popular methods of restrictive weight loss surgery in the UK and Europe. gastricv banding or bariatric surgery is a surgical procedure specifically designed to assist in wieght loss for obese or morbidly obese patients who generally have a body mass index BMI of between 35 to 40 or sometimes a little higher.

The Gastric banding appliance itself is an inflatable prosthetic medical device which is placed around the opening and top section of the patients stomach . A tube is connected to this banding devices via a tiny keyhole laparoscopic surgical procedure. Once the gastric banding device is in situ around the top of the stomach the gastric banding device is then filled, or inflated with fluid which then creates a small area at the upper end of the stomach. The gastric banding device is usually inflated and adjusted through a small access port which is normally located just under the surface of the skin in the abdominal area of the patient. A solution of saline or other non toxic solution is introduced into the banded area via this port to fill the pouch. A specialized surgical needle is used to avoid any damage to the portal membrane and any adjustments must subsequently be undertaken by a qualified gastric banding Surgeon or one of His assistants who have been specially trained in this procedure. There are several port designs in common use today, which may be placed in varying positions, according to the surgeons own personal preference and experiences in managing these types of procedures. The port is generally stitched into place to maintain the stability of the portal access point, and also to avoid any accidental damage by the Patient in their normal every day life.

This pouch normally ‘fills’ with food quickly as the patient eats and thereby restricts further passage of food from the top to the bottom area of the patients stomach. Once the gastric Banding is applied to the patients stomach, that part of the stomach sends a subconscious message to the brain receptors that the stomach is full. This sensation is interpreted by the brain as a message that the stomach is now full. This in turn helps the patient to eat smaller portions of food and fluids, with the resultant effect of providing the required weight loss over time.

When fluid is introduced into the band, the band itself inflated further, and as it expands it places additional pressure around the outside of the banded stomach area. This then decreases the size of the passage between the two areas of the stomach thereby restricting the movement of food into the lower part of the stomach. Over a period of time this restriction is often increased until the patient feels that they have reached a point where optimal weight loss can be reached for them, with the minimum amount of fluid required. This is an individual preference, and several visits and consultations are generally required to fine tune the tightening of the band and the amount of fluid content required for each individual patients overall comfort and weight loss targets

The Main benefits provided by Gastric Banding Surgery is that it does not require any major surgery cuts, nor is it necessary to remove any part of the digestive system of the patients. Furthermore Subsequent Removal of the Band is possible, but this does require a further keyhole surgery procedure to be performed to remove the device. Once the Gastric Banding has been removed from the patient the stomach usually returns to its normal pre-banded state over time without any known problems to date.

COMMON GASTRIC BANDING PROBLEMS

It is unusual for gastric banding patients to experience any nutritional deficiencies following gastric band surgery. “Gastric dumping syndrome” issues also do not normally occur with gastric banding surgery, since no parts of the intestines or indeed of the stomach need to be removed or re-routed.

However weight regain is possible as with ANY weight loss procedures including gastric banding. Some of the more radical procedures can initially result in rapid weight loss but this is normally controlled and managed well in Gastric Banding situations. World Health Organization recommend that monthly weight loss of to 1 kilograms per week should be a general target weight loss for the average Gastric banding patient generally, and then the Patient should have no problems to lose this amount of weight, however this can be very variable, and in accordance with the individual patient, their personal life circumstances, their personal attitude and mobility.

A commonly reported occurrence for gastric banding patients is regurgitation of non-acidic food from the upper pouched area. This is commonly known as Productive Burping. If the gastric banding Patient experiences this regularly, then they should consider eating less, eating much slower, and chewing their food much more thoroughly. If this does not eventually solve the problem then further medical advice must be obtained from your Practitioner or gastric banding surgeon.

Occasionally, the narrow passage at the Banded are of the stomach can become blocked by a larger portions of un chewed or unsuitable food. If this occurs on a regular basis then further adjustments to your diet should be considered, and once again you are strongly advised to consult your gastric banding Reactionary or dietician.

I some cases Ulceration or Gastritis Erosion can occur as the band can wear and aggravate a small area on the outside of the stomach wall which can then, in very rare and extreme cases, lead to a migration of the band itself into the inside the stomach. This however is a very very rare occurrence and usually there are many warning signs well in advance of this ever happening.
Slippage of the gastric Band is also an unusual occurrence. This when the lower part of the stomach may prolapsed over the band devices and cause an obstruction. Once again however this a very rare occurrence and warning signs are usually noticed well beforehand.

Psychological effects of any weight loss procedure may also be considered. Many Patients who have been Obese for extended periods of time prior to the gastric banding surgery procedure, have been habitually overeating for a greater part of their lives, therefore any sudden changes to their diet and lifestyle can have some adverse affects on the Patient.

Plastic surgery is definitively a medical procedure, but there is also an artistic element to it. This brings us to the subject of tumescent abdominoplasty.

Tumescent Abdominoplasty

One of the most popular methods of liposuction is tumescent abdominoplasty. It is a cosmetic surgical procedure commonly performed to remove excess fat deposits in localized areas permanently, which are resistant to exercise and traditional diet programs. Tumescent Abdominoplasty is also recommended for patients suffering from morbid obesity.

Tumescent abdominoplasty involves the use of advanced techniques to guarantee permanent results by filling and swelling the fatty areas to be removed, thus the name tumescent, literally meaning “to swell”. Tumescent abdominoplasty is performed by filling large volumes of fatty areas with a special solution before the surgical procedure. The solution used by surgeons has the effect of a local anesthetic facilitating the surgery and preventing the use of heavy intravenous sedation or general anesthesia that might be risky for some persons. Additionally, the solution makes adrenalin that constricts the blood vessels, reducing bleeding to negligible amounts in comparison with other liposuction methods.

By means of small tubes called cannulas, the patient is connected to a suction syringe or device that extracts the fat in a safe manner that also facilitates a quick recovery. Fatty deposits removed in very specific areas allow the surgeon to sculpt artistically any body into a new shape with the aid of delicate instruments.

There is minimal pain involved in tumescent abdominoplasty. Most clinics use natural therapies to relieve it such as listening to sedative music or friendly talking during the application of the solution which is the time when some pain may occur. The removing and sculpting procedure on fatty deposits does not cause pain by in and of itself.

Patients who undergo this cosmetic surgery often refer to the procedure as comparable to a deep massage session. Because the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, a patient can cooperate with the surgeon by changing position if necessary to optimize the results. Compared to traditional invasive liposuction, this is a drastic improvement.

The anesthetic effect of the solution applied before the procedure generally lasts for nearly 24 hours after which patients may experience light soreness that usually disappears alone after 1 or 2 weeks. From all the abdominoplasty techniques, including dry technique, wet technique, Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction UAL, Power Assisted Techniques PAL, etc, Tumescent Abdominoplasty is safest method of liposuction available today.

If you are considering a procedure to address hard to get at areas of fat, tumescent abdominoplasty may be a perfect option. Make sure to discuss the applicability of the procedure to your situation with your plastic surgeon.

Cosmetic surgery is an increasingly common way for individuals to improve their appearance in a way that might otherwise be impossible. Cosmetic surgery is not to be mistaken with plastic surgery, though the two can be very similar. Plastic surgery is used to repair deformities, or correct appearance from after an accident or injury. Cosmetic surgery is concerned with improving the appearance of an otherwise perfectly healthy individual.

The science behind cosmetic surgery has continued to advance, and an amazing variety of different procedures are available. Botox is a popular treatment for both men and women, reducing wrinkles and tightening the muscles in the face to increase youthful appearance. This treatment became widespread in the United States during the 2004 election with John Kerry, though it is a practice among politicians, the wealthy, and movies stars.

There are several other cosmetic surgeries for the facial area, as well. Everything from a face lift, to rhinoplasty nose job, laser eye lid surgery, lip augmentation for those ladies looking for the gorgeous Angelina Jolie look, facial minisculpture, or the great one for middle aged men hair transplants. Almost any facial feature can by altered or modified in a way more pleasing to the individual. The options are amazing, and information is easy to find.

Beyond the face there are all types of procedures. Sharon Osborne, wife of famous rock singer Ozzy Osborne, is very open about the multiple cosmetic surgeries she has had, and is a great example of a now common celebrity practice. For the body there is liposuction, butt lifts, breast lifts, breast augmentation, and breast reduction which is also available for weighted men unhappy with upper body flab. There are so many procedures that can be undertaken that it can be intimidating to someone just beginning to look around.

If everything seems overwhelming, just take it one step at a time. Which trait would you most like to see changed? Lips? Stomach? Nose? Choose the one feature you would like to take care of first and meet with a cosmetic surgeon to see what your options are. With how common cosmetic surgery has become, the procedures are safe and done by professional doctors who often specialize in even just the one treatment. This is a field where there is something for everyone, but consider your options carefully. Like getting a tattoo, work may be reversed, but it may lead to more headaches than you care for. Still, if its time for a change, the options are all there at your disposal, and your happiness at an improved appearance may be a phone call away.

While BOTOX Cosmetic treatment have been around for a while, they became much more mainstream knowledge in the United States because of the 2004 political election when it was revealed that Senator John Kerry used BOTOX treatments to keep a more youthful appearance. BOTOX Cosmetic treatment is considered by many to be a revolutionary approach to reversing the affects of facial wrinkles. Crow’s feet, worry lines and laugh lines can all be treated. Cosmetic de-nervation is the process of injecting BOTOX Cosmetic into the tiny facial muscles that create the wrinkles, and then the treatment takes care of the rest.

BOTOX Cosmetic injections are performed without anesthesia because it is virtually painless. BOTOX is given by injections, and not actual surgery, which makes this a much quicker and less painful way of treating a patient. Only a very small sting is felt when the injections are made. The effects are not permanent and may need to be repeated two to three times per year to retain their full effectiveness. Research has suggested that long term use of the injections leads to a longer duration of each treatment’s effect. Patients over the age of 65 may not experience as dramatic of results. BOTOX Cosmetic is only useful in treating expression lines and cannot be used to repair sagging skin caused by aging.

After the operation patients may experience slight bruising around the area that quickly fades. Normal activities can be performed right away, as if nothing had happened at all. Possible side effects are temporary weakness of nearby muscles, or in some very rare cases an eyelid may droop. BOTOX Cosmetic is completely reversible so any side effect is only a temporary condition, a big advantage over more permanent procedures that other cosmetic surgeries offer. The doctor will explain all risks associated at the time of your consultation, and help to determine if BOTOX will actually treat the lines on your face that you would most like to see reduced.

The important re-iteration here is that BOTOX treats expressive lines. These arent natural sagging or wrinkles caused by age, but that come from smiling, laughing, being wide-eyed. These are the lines that BOTOX treats. Ask your doctor how effective the BOTOX treatments would be, since theres no point if they do not help the specific wrinkles you want to target, and take the doctors advice. Heshe is the expert, after all.

Cosmetic surgery on the nose is a commonly performed procedure. If you decide to have it, you need to know what to expect after a nose job.

What to Expect After A Nose Job

After a lot of research, you have finally decided to get nose job. Of course, you’ve heard about the surgery itself, the costs involved, and the expectations you can have as results from this type of plastic surgery. The next thing you should consider is what to expect after nose job.

Your image immediately following surgery will be startling. You will be bruised and swollen after it has been completed. You probably won’t like what you see in the mirror. Your nose might be packed with gauze. You will have a cast on your nose to support the healing nasal structure. Your doctor will tell you whether or not to keep ice or cold compresses on your nose, some people feel that bags of frozen peas make a good ice pack, as they mold to your face.

Your nose will be stuffed up, and you’ll have to breathe through your mouth. You’ll also feel some pain from the procedure, and you may become nauseous or throw up. This can happen either from swallowing blood during the surgery, or from the after-effects of anesthesia. In five to seven days, your surgeon will remove the cast from your nose and you’ll be able to see your new nasal area. It will still be bruised and swollen, and you’ll want to take care to not jostle or hit your healing nose, as it will hurt.

In about ten days longer if you’re a smoker, your bruises will fade and you should feel ready to face the public if you haven’t done so already. You might want to cover any remaining bruises with color-corrective cosmetics. Your surgeon will often make recommendations regarding which cosmetics are right for your skin type and bruising pattern.

It can take two to four months for all swelling to go down from the surgery. In some cases, it can take up to a year before you’ll know exactly what your nose is going to look like. Some people become upset with the look of their post-operative nose in these first months, as crookedness and bumps may show up during the healing process. Most surgeons recommend against going through any other procedures, such as revisions, for at least nine months after having nose job. The healing process can simply take this long, so you will need to have some patience.

Nose job is the type of plastic surgery that has a very high success rate. In this case, success is defined as meeting the reasonable results the surgeon predicted prior to the surgery. That being said, you have to understand what to expect after nose job and have some patience.

Liposuction is one of the more popular plastic surgeries given the heft of most Americans. As with any surgery, there are risks you should understand

Understanding the Risks of Liposuction

When you decide on having liposuction, or any plastic surgery, there are many factors that should go into your decision to proceed. What procedure to have done, where to have the surgery performed, which doctor to choose for your surgery and the result you can reasonably expect should come into play. As with any surgery, you should also consider the risks, in this case the risks of liposuction.

You need to remember that liposuction is a surgical procedure, requiring general anesthesia, invasive entrance to and manipulation of your body. The technique of liposuction requires fluid, which often includes an anesthetic called lidocaine, to be pumped under the skin of the area to be liposuctioned. Epinephrine is also added to this fluid to slow bleeding, and then the area is cut into and a hollow instrument called a cannula is stuck into the area in question. This cannula is attached to a strong vacuum that sucks the fatty material out of the area that needs the removal procedure completed.

This process can carry risks. A very high percentage of surgeries have no complications whatsoever, but occasionally there can be problems. Statistics show that deadly complications occur .0002 of the time for all surgeries. For instance, there were five deaths from liposuction procedures in New York City between the years of 1993-1998. The patients were reported to have died from such problems as fluid overload from the fluid used to numb and prepare the area, low blood pressure from the lidocaine added to the fluid and blood clots. Other deaths over the years have been caused by interactions between the lidocaine anesthetic and other medications the patients were taking. Obviously, it is crucial that you tell your plastic surgeon what medications, if any, you are taking.

Obviously, death is a rare occurrence with liposuction, so lets discuss side effects. Side effects such as bruising, swelling, misshapen areas can happen after having liposuction. There is also the possibility of not getting the outcome you expected and needing further surgery to correct the issues. Temporary numbness in the surgical area and scarring are also common risks of liposuction.

Before you choose to have liposuction, make sure you have considered the potential risks of liposuction carefully. Discuss the risks associated with liposuction with your plastic surgeon and make an informed decision.

Cosmetic Surgery is gaining popularity in the United States and all over the world. Cosmetic surgeons are practicing their trade with great frequency and the persons undergoing cosmetic surgery are normally quite happy with the results. There are many procedures that are categorized as cosmetic surgery. Here are several that are extremely popular
Liposuction Also called lipoplasty or body sculpting, liposuction is a form of cosmetic surgery that removes pockets of fat from the body. These pockets of fat are hard to get rid of in most people. These problem areas, sometimes referred to as love handles and saddle bags, create a poor self body image. With liposuction, these areas of fat are literally sucked out through a small, practically painless incision. Symptoms that may occur after liposuction is performed are swelling, bruising, and sometimes pain or numbness around the incision sites. In many instances, those having liposuction return to work after only a few days! An approximate cost for this cosmetic surgery is 2,000, but it varies greatly from area to area and is dependant on how much fat is to be removed.
Breast Implants Sometimes called breast enhancement or breast augmentation, this cosmetic surgery consists of sliding saline-filled bags between the chest muscles and the breast tissue. Many stay in bed for a couple days after having breast implants, but in most cases, those having this procedure can return to work in less than a week. No vigorous exercising should be done right after this surgery. An approximate cost for this cosmetic surgery is 3,000, but it varies greatly depending on the expertise of the surgeon and the location.

Nose job For this cosmetic surgical procedure, a surgeon reshapes the patients nose in any way desirable. It is done by removing the skin and completely changing the structure of the nose, including bone and cartilage. Most patients stay home and rest for at least a day or two, while bruising and swelling are worst for the first three days after surgery. The bruising will normally subside in about a week, but the swelling may be noticeable for several weeks. In most cases, the patient is back to their old self with a completely new nose within three weeks. An approximate cost for this cosmetic surgery is 4,000, but it varies greatly on the location and expertise of the surgeon.

Facelift As we age, the skin of the face tends to sag and fold. This type of cosmetic surgery takes the skin of the face and stretches it toward the scalp, tightening and smoothing it. Bruising and swelling is common after this procedure. The bruising can fade in around two weeks, while the swelling could last a bit longer. Numbness of the face is common, as well, and can last several weeks. For the first several days after a facelift, it is important to take it easy, rest and stay out of the sun. An approximate cost for this cosmetic surgery is 5,000, but can be more.

Botox injections This cosmetic procedure is used to smooth wrinkles and frown lines around the eyes. Botox injections paralyse the forehead muscles, so there will be less movement. Swelling, bruising and numbness are common after botox, but no recovery time is normally required. Most get the injections and are back to their daily routine immediately! A Botox cosmetic procedure needs to be repeated every 4 months or so, as the effects are not permanent. An approximate cost for this cosmetic procedure is 300-400 per treatment, but can be more.

Blepharoplasty Better known as eyelid surgery, this cosmetic surgery reshapes the eyelids. Its purpose is to remove bagginess and tighten the loose skin around the eyelids. Swelling and bruising is normal, with the swelling going down after a week and the bruising fading after about ten days. Some side effects of this procedure are blurry vision, dry eyes or frequent tearing. An approximate cost for this cosmetic surgery is anywhere between 2,000 and 4,000, depending on location and the amount of reshaping the surgeon has to do.

Although all of these procedures can be costly, they are worth the investment if you are unhappy with aspects of your appearance. One may be right for you. Ask your doctor about cosmetic surgery today!
